According to the teenage student, on getting to town, she decided to go to the house of one of their family friends who was not aware of her missing
A 16-year-old secondary school student in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has been arrested for allegedly staging her own kidnapping and demanding a N2 million ransom from her family.
Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu revealed the teen conspired with a family friend, using his phone and bank account to communicate the fake abduction. “She refused to let her brother speak with her ‘kidnappers’ and blocked his line when pressed,” Ukandu stated.
The scheme unraveled when suspicious family members ambushed the girl near her accomplice’s home.
Investigators discovered she had spent two nights at the friend’s house while sending ransom instructions. “She even provided his account details for the payment,” Ukandu added, noting both are now in custody as police expand their probe to other occupants of the residence.
