A multi-vehicle crash involving five articulated trucks on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway left at least four persons, including a police inspector, dead and several injured on Thursday.
At least four persons were feared dead, including a police inspector, following a massive collision involving five articulated trucks on the Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday. Several others sustained injuries in the incident, which Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, attributed to brake failure in one of the trailers.
“At the beginning, we have a trailer that failed to brake, and it is important that everybody in charge of their vehicle ensures proper maintenance,” Ishola stated, confirming the tragedy. The Commissioner also expressed regret over the loss of an officer, saying, “It’s very unfortunate that we lost one of our police inspectors who came with our advance team to salvage the situation.”
Emergency teams, including the police, LASTMA, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, were deployed early in the morning to rescue victims and clear the extensive wreckage. Ishola cautioned against reckless driving, warning, “We want road users, especially those driving articulated vehicles, to stop this kind of recklessness. If they are not reckless in their driving habit, we won’t have this kind of accident.” Rescue and vehicle removal efforts were ongoing as of press time.
