Police arrest suspect over death of singer Destiny Boy

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of popular singer Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy. The command said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. In a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Monday, the police public relations officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

News of the singer’s death broke on Sunday after videos showing his body being conveyed to a mortuary circulated on social media, sparking grief and speculation over the cause of death. In a separate video, an unidentified associate said the artiste had been battling a private health challenge, stating, “God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death… Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it.” Destiny Boy, who rose to fame in 2019 with a Fuji cover of Davido’s If, was known for his Fuji-infused sound and had released several songs, including Lamba, One Transaction and Gbese, while police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
