Tension erupted at the Ezekwe Female Hostel of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) after students apprehended a man they suspected to be a Fulani herdsman wandering within the restricted female hostel premises. Students questioned how he gained access and accused him of pretending to be mentally unstable, while an eyewitness said, “As we speak there is high tension in UNIZIK.” A university official dismissed claims of an invasion, stating that the man was an “unidentified person” who behaved incoherently during questioning and appeared “mentally imbalanced,” adding that no weapons were found on him.
The incident heightened anxiety due to the country’s security situation, prompting students to demand stricter protective measures. The university management has yet to release an official statement.
