Over 80 killed in Gaza City as Israeli ground offensive widens

Israeli strikes killed more than 80 in Gaza City as troops advanced, while Trump unveiled a peace plan to regional leaders at the UN.

More than 80 Palestinians were killed across Gaza on Wednesday, with most deaths reported in Gaza City, according to local hospitals. At least 20 people, including women and children, died when an airstrike hit a shelter for displaced families near Firas market.

The Israel Defense Forces said it targeted two Hamas fighters, disputing casualty figures given by Gaza authorities. Tanks and troops also pushed further into Gaza City, which Israel calls Hamas’ last stronghold, as fighting neared hospitals and residential neighborhoods.

The offensive, aimed at freeing hostages and ensuring Hamas’ “decisive defeat,” has driven hundreds of thousands from the city. The UN has warned that displacement may become permanent, citing collapsed services and overcrowded “humanitarian zones.”

In New York, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff said President Donald Trump had presented a 21-point peace plan to Arab and Muslim leaders but gave no details, expressing confidence in a possible breakthrough.
