The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has been hit by allegations of admission irregularities following claims that some lower-ranked candidates were offered admission ahead of applicants with higher rankings. The development prompted swift intervention by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which ordered UNN and other affected tertiary institutions to immediately reverse all admissions carried out in violation of established guidelines.
In a directive contained in its weekly bulletin released in Abuja on Monday, JAMB said it uncovered a pattern in which higher-ranked candidates were allegedly bypassed in favour of lower-scoring applicants. The statement, issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, warned that breaches of the admission process would not be tolerated, stressing that admissions must strictly follow the three-tier structure of Merit, Catchment Area and Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS).
