Outrage as worshippers killed in Kebbi mosque attack during Ramadan

Suspected Lakurawa gunmen reportedly attacked Dadin-Kowa community in Kebbi State during Taraweeh prayers, killing several worshippers and injuring others in an assault that has heightened concerns over insecurity in northern Nigeria.

Suspected members of the Lakurawa armed group have reportedly attacked Dadin-Kowa community in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing several residents and injuring many others during Taraweeh prayers. The incident was disclosed on Thursday by security analyst and crisis journalist, Bakatsine, in a post shared via his X handle.

According to the report, the attackers stormed the community on Wednesday night and targeted worshippers observing prayers in a mosque. The assault was said to have resulted in multiple fatalities, with several others sustaining injuries, while the mosque was also reportedly desecrated during the attack.

Bakatsine described the development as a grim reminder of the persistent insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, noting that the attack occurred during the holy month of Ramadan. He questioned how individuals who kill innocent worshippers inside a mosque during Ramadan could claim to represent Islam, stating that such actions only tarnish the image of the religion and fuel hostility against the faith.
