The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will officially announce his new political party on or before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party over prolonged internal crises at the national level.
Confirming the development during a radio programme in Osogbo, Alimi said, “The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor has done this and has written his resignation letter for quite a long time,” while stressing that the looming governorship election and INEC nomination deadline of December 15 made the move unavoidable.
He dismissed claims that the APC welcomed Adeleke’s departure, insisting, “They’re pretending, they know what has hit them… but Adeleke is smarter,” and assured residents that, “As per the question, where the governor is going… on or before December 12 or 13, everybody would have known that one,” adding that the defection would not have happened if the PDP “is not fractionalised at the national level.”
