Denge Joseph Onoh has petitioned the Senate to reject Reno Omokri’s ambassadorial nomination, accusing him of past defamatory attacks against President Bola Tinubu and actions he claims threaten Nigeria’s diplomatic integrity.
Former Enugu lawmaker and Tinubu spokesperson Denge Joseph Onoh has petitioned the Senate President, urging the National Assembly to reject the confirmation of Reno Omokri as ambassador-designate, arguing that “Mr. Omokri’s antecedents, public statements, and documented actions constitute a direct threat to Nigeria’s national interest, diplomatic integrity, and international reputation.”
Onoh cited Omokri’s past allegations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—including repeatedly calling him a “drug lord” and “drug baron,” claiming to possess documents linking him to narcotics trafficking, participating in the #HarassBuhariOutOfLondon protests, and promoting the “Mike Arnold” forgery. He argued that confirming Omokri would validate these accusations, undermine DSS vetting credibility, and damage Nigeria’s diplomatic corps, insisting the Senate reject the nomination unless Omokri publicly presents the evidence he previously claimed to have.
