Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, said the opposition is far from ready for the 2027 presidential election, arguing that only former Vice President Atiku Abubakar understands what it means to be competitive against President Bola Tinubu. In a Facebook post, he questioned how opposition aspirants expect to defeat Tinubu when they “have not even come together to agree on a common strategy,” stressing that running for president “is no child’s play.”
Momodu described Atiku as the only aspirant “meticulously and practically pursuing his dreams” and warned that defeating a “ruthless competitor” would require resources, nationwide structures, religious balance, and ethnic support. He added that many opposition figures “are just not ready” and may have either abandoned their ambitions or are comfortable with Tinubu continuing “this charade of a government.”
