One dead, six others injured in mass stabbing attack in Canada

One person has died and at least six others were injured in a mass stabbing at Hollow Water First Nation in Manitoba, Canadian police confirmed on Thursday.

Canadian authorities have confirmed that one person died and six others were injured following a mass stabbing at Hollow Water First Nation in Manitoba, about 200km northeast of Winnipeg. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the suspect also died.

Provincial health officials reported that eight people were taken to hospitals with varying injuries, some by air ambulance. Two patients were flown to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, according to STARS Air Ambulance.

RCMP described the incident as a “mass casualty” event but assured residents there is no current threat to public safety. A heavy police presence remains in the area as the RCMP major crimes unit leads the investigation.

“Our sincere condolences to everyone within the community of Hollow Water First Nation,” RCMP said in a statement.

The attack coincides with the third anniversary of a similar stabbing in Saskatchewan that killed 11 people.
