One dead as police rescue 11 abducted passengers in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has rescued 11 passengers abducted by suspected armed hoodlums along the Benin–Lagos Expressway, while one driver lost his life during the attack. The incident occurred at about 11:55 p.m. on December 20 at Isiuwa, according to security sources.

Sources said the assailants first opened fire on an Audi vehicle conveying plantains and two passengers before attacking a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Lagos to Akwa Ibom with 10 passengers. “The bandits took the passengers into the bush,” the source said.

Police operatives were immediately mobilised, leading to the rescue of 11 victims, including Alhaji Mustapha Urmar and others. Two passengers remain missing, while the injured Hiace driver later died at Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital. His body was deposited at the morgue as search operations continue to rescue remaining victims and arrest the suspects.
