Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known for her hit song Omije Ojumi, has died. The news of her death was confirmed on Tuesday evening by a source close to the family, although no official statement has yet been released. Akinnanu had in recent months sought public prayers as she battled a serious leg ailment, the details of which were not formally disclosed by her family or management.
In late 2025, a video of the singer during a prayer session at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, circulated widely on social media, showing her seated with her leg extended as prayers were offered for her recovery. The footage sparked nationwide concern and support, with fans organising prayer vigils and sharing messages of encouragement. Akinnanu, who began her music career at the age of 10 and later left banking to pursue gospel music full-time, rose to prominence with Omije Ojumi, a song that endeared her to many Nigerians.
