Police dismiss viral AI-generated videos alleging bandit attacks in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed viral AI-generated videos claiming imminent bandit attacks, urging calm while affirming enhanced security measures across the state.

The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday dismissed social media claims of an impending bandit attack, revealing that viral threat videos circulating in the state were created using artificial intelligence.

According to spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola, “The circulating video clips were created using artificial intelligence (AI) by a clandestine individual or group of persons yet to be identified,” noting that forensic analysis traced the earliest version of the footage to a foreign online source three months ago.

The command stressed that the clips did not originate from any terrorist group and that “there is no credible intelligence indicating any planned attack on Ogun State or any of its communities, schools, or public institutions.” The police urged residents to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified content, and report suspicious activity, while the Commissioner of Police has ordered increased surveillance, enhanced patrols, and strengthened inter-agency collaboration to maintain peace and security.
