The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Lekan Lasisi, over the death of his stepbrother following a dispute over a N4,000 debt in the Abule Tuntun area of Odeda Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred on December 19, reportedly followed an argument sparked by repeated demands from the deceased’s creditors, who allegedly asked Lasisi to settle the debts. The disagreement later escalated when the deceased was said to have brought out a cutlass during the confrontation.
In an interrogation video shared online, Lasisi claimed the shooting was accidental, saying, “When he took a cutlass, I brought out my gun. I am a hunter… I brought out a gun, but it accidentally discharged and hit him. I do not intend to kill him.” He appealed for leniency, adding, “My appeal to the government is that they should have mercy upon me. My mother is sick, and the person who could take care of her is on a sickbed.” Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babseyi Oluseyi, said, “It happened on December 19, and it was transferred to SCID, Eleweran,” noting that investigations are ongoing.
