Obidient movement rejects vice-presidential role for Peter Obi, reaffirms presidential ambition

The Obidient Movement has firmly rejected speculations that it is supporting Peter Obi for a vice-presidential role, reiterating that its sole backing is for his presidential candidacy in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The clarification followed recent comments made by the movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, who had stated on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief that the movement would abide by the results of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, even if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the candidate. This statement sparked rumors that Obi might be considered for a vice-presidential role if Atiku won the party’s ticket.

The Obidient Movement dismissed these claims, stating that its mission remains focused solely on Obi’s election as President, not as a vice-presidential candidate.
In a statement titled The Peter Obi Presidency: A Joint Project of All Nigerians, the movement emphasized its commitment to Obi’s leadership vision and confirmed that while it currently operates within the ADC, its loyalty is directed entirely toward Obi’s presidential aspirations. The statement also affirmed that the movement would respect the outcome of the ADC’s presidential primary as long as the process is fair, transparent, and credible. However, it made clear that the Obidient Movement would take a united and lawful stance if the process was compromised. The group concluded, “Wherever Mr. Peter Obi, acting within the law and guided by conscience, chooses to pursue his presidential mandate, the Obidient Movement will move with him.”
