Nuhu Ribadu accused of illegal detention of woman over alleged Tinubu video call

Nuhu Ribadu has been accused in a petition of unlawfully detaining a woman for months over an alleged video call involving President Bola Tinubu, with the National Human Rights Commission confirming the complaint is under review.

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has been accused of orchestrating the arrest and prolonged detention of a woman identified as Maryam Bukar over an alleged romantic video call involving President Bola Tinubu. According to claims contained in a petition and a video circulated online, Bukar was initially detained for four days after reportedly recording the video call and was later rearrested, with allegations that she has remained in custody for more than eight months.

A source alleged that Ribadu acknowledged the arrest was unlawful and urged her to remain calm, while a petition dated April 4, 2025, filed with the National Human Rights Commission accused the NSA of ordering an illegal arrest by military personnel. The commission confirmed receipt of the complaint, stating: “The complaint has been registered as C/2025/CPR/746/HQ and it is receiving attention. You shall be informed of the outcome of our investigation on the matter in due course.” The allegations remain claims by petitioners and sources, and no official response addressing the specific accusations was included in the report.
