NUC Exposes 100 Fake Professors: BUK, EKSU, UI top fraud list

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, University of Port Harcourt, and University of Jos, all with eight fake professors, are sixth on the list.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has exposed 100 fake professors across Nigerian universities, with Bayero University, Kano (BUK) leading with 20 fraudulent academics. Ekiti State University followed with 15 fake professors, while the University of Ibadan and University of Ilorin tied for third place with 11 each. Nnamdi Azikiwe University ranked fourth with 10 fake professors.

Other institutions implicated include the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and two federal universities of technology with nine fake professors each. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), and others recorded eight cases, while Covenant University was the only private institution listed, with four fake professors. NUC Executive Secretary Abubakar Rasheed disclosed that the details were published on the commission’s website for verification.

Rasheed urged vice-chancellors to appoint desk officers to scrutinize the list before uploading verified data. The revelation has raised concerns about academic integrity in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, with calls for stricter oversight to curb credential fraud.
