An NSCDC female officer has died after being struck by an operational vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja, the agency has confirmed.
A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after being hit by one of the Corps’ operational vehicles during a simulation exercise in Abuja. Footage circulating on social media shows the moment the accident occurred during what appeared to be a coordinated show-of-force drill, with the officer knocked down and run over by a patrol vehicle making a turn.
In the video, the vehicle eventually came to a stop as colleagues and onlookers rushed to the scene to lift it and pull the officer out. Emergency responders arrived shortly afterwards and evacuated her from the location. The incident has sparked reactions online, with many expressing concern over safety measures during operational drills.
Confirming the fatality, NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale told TheCable on Saturday via telephone that the Corps had commenced internal processes following the incident. Authorities have yet to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the exercise or the outcome of preliminary investigations.
