Nothing good can come out of military rule,” – SDP’s Adewole Adebayo

Former SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo says military rule is not an option for Nigeria, stressing that good governance remains the best safeguard for democracy amid coup rumours.

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has cautioned against any return to military rule, saying it offers no benefits to Nigerians.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adebayo reacted to reports of an alleged coup attempt that recently heightened political tension across the country.

“Democracy is fragile whether you have extreme thwarting of it by elements of military juntas or they don’t want free and fair elections and then clamp down on citizens,” he said. “Everywhere in the world, democracy is fragile, and it is to be protected.”

He called for accountability from both the military and civilian authorities over the incident, noting that “the best insurance against disturbance, destruction, military coup, and bringing down of law and order is good governance.”

Adebayo warned political leaders that instability spares no one, urging them to be “more responsive to the needs of the people.”

“I can tell you nothing good can come out of the military; it is not an option for us,” he declared.

His remarks came days after President Bola Tinubu announced a major shake-up in the nation’s military leadership.
