Northern governors, traditional rulers hold emergency meeting over insecurity

The Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council are currently meeting behind closed doors at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, to deliberate on worsening insecurity marked by banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and farmer-herder clashes that have killed hundreds and displaced thousands in recent months.

Chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the emergency session is focused on the deteriorating security situation in Northern Nigeria.

The talks come amid a recent spike in attacks, including the abduction of at least 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State who were later released, and the kidnapping of over 200 pupils from a Catholic private school in Niger State, from where 50 reportedly escaped and have since reunited with their families.
