The Northern Christian Youth Coalition (NCYC) has called on President Tinubu to sack the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, over what it described as grave allegations capable of undermining Nigeria’s security architecture. The group said the demand was driven by the need to uphold accountability and restore public trust in government institutions.
In a statement on Thursday, NCYC National Coordinator, Jeremaid Hudso Bako, said the recent dismissal of former NMDPRA chief executive Farouk Ahmed showed the importance of transparency in public service. He said, “The recent dismissal of Farouk Ahmed… serves as a crucial reminder of the need for accountability in public office,” adding that similar standards should apply to Matawalle.
Bako said allegations against the defence minister were troubling, particularly amid rising insecurity. He said, “The accusations against Bello Matawalle are not only severe but also deeply troubling,” stressing that retaining him could undermine national safety. The coalition urged President Tinubu to act swiftly, warning that failure to do so would weaken the administration’s commitment to integrity and good governance.
