The Defence Headquarters has denied claims of US troop deployment in Nigeria, saying security cooperation with the United States remains within established bilateral and sovereignty-respecting frameworks.
The Defence Headquarters on Thursday dismissed reports claiming that United States troops have been deployed in Nigeria. Director of Defence Information, Major General Somaila Uba, said Nigeria only maintains a long-standing and structured security partnership with the US focused on capacity building, intelligence sharing, logistics support and strategic dialogue.
Uba said all engagements are conducted in full respect of Nigeria’s sovereignty and existing bilateral frameworks. “The Defence Headquarters has noted recent media reports and public speculation suggesting the presence or deployment of United States troops in Nigeria,” he said, adding that the Armed Forces remain committed to protecting territorial integrity without compromising national independence.
