No steady power, no second term — Obi mocks Tinubu’s campaign vow

No steady power, no second term — Obi mocks Tinubu’s campaign vow

Peter Obi has faulted President Tinubu’s administration over recurring power failures, citing unmet campaign promises on steady electricity supply.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s persistent power outages, saying the administration has failed to fulfil a major 2023 campaign promise. Obi recalled Tinubu’s 2022 statement urging Nigerians not to re-elect him if he failed to deliver steady electricity within four years.

In a post on his X handle, Obi noted that the national grid collapsed twice in January 2026 and about 12 times in 2025, warning that unreliable power hampers economic growth. “President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promise in 2022 was clear… This reality sharply contradicts the promise,” he said.
