The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a Nigeria–United States joint airstrike targeted terrorist hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area, with no civilian casualties reported.

In a statement released by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa, officials said the operation formed part of efforts to weaken terrorist networks across the North-West. “The impact of the airstrike could not be immediately determined as assessment reports from the Joint Operations are still being awaited,” the statement said.

The state also reacted to public concerns about objects discovered near Jabo in Tambuwal LGA, noting that investigations were ongoing. “The circumstances surrounding the objects found in a location near Jabo town could not be immediately explained, as the outcome of analysis by Nigeria–US military authorities is being awaited,” Bawa stated. He confirmed that no civilian harm was recorded in either Tangaza or Jabo communities.

Sokoto authorities reiterated support for international security cooperation, describing the Nigeria–US partnership as crucial in tackling terrorism and cross-border crime.

The government appealed to residents to remain calm and assist security forces with credible information. “The government calls on residents to continue to pray to Almighty Allah to assist our security agencies to defeat criminals in the state and the country at large,” the statement concluded.
