NNPC boss, Ojulari, resumes duties despite resignation rumours

The EFCC has denied allegations of unlawful arrest and coercion of Ojulari, describing the reports as ‘ridiculous and mischievous.

Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), resumed work today despite widespread rumours that he had resigned or been forced to step down. He officially reported to his Abuja office at about 9:35 a.m. and reassumed his normal duties.

A top security source confirmed Ojulari had returned to full engagement with official responsibilities. Internal memos reportedly instructed NNPCL staff to disregard reports of his resignation circulating on social media.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has strongly denied claims that Ojulari tendered his resignation or was removed by security agencies. A reliable Presidency source described the allegations as “false and rubbish,” insisting Ojulari remains the substantive head of the company.

The controversy stems from allegations of a $21 million corruption scandal, with civil society organisations calling for Ojulari’s arrest and prosecution. Meanwhile, the EFCC has denied detaining or coercing him, describing the narrative as “ridiculous and mischievous.”
