The Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Global Defence Consortium contends that Kanu’s terrorism conviction, under a law reportedly repealed in 2022, highlights the urgent need for Nigerians to become legally literate. Kanu, sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2025, has requested a transfer from Sokoto prison to the Federal Capital Territory.
Barrister Njoku Jude Njoku stated that upholding such a conviction, based on a “dead law,” would challenge established Nigerian jurisprudence and Supreme Court decisions. The defence team believes this situation underscores a broader call for judicial transparency and public understanding of legal processes.
