A major highlight of the reform package is the transition to a fully cashless system
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has announced a complete phase-out of cash transactions across all its offices effective July 1, 2025, as part of its digital transformation agenda. Frank Alao, Director of Corporate Communications, stated that the move aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and global best practices, positioning NIPOST as a modern, digitally driven institution. “We are assuring Nigerians of a revitalized NIPOST that delivers superior service,” Alao emphasized in Monday’s announcement.
The cashless policy will require customers to use approved electronic payment channels for all transactions, eliminating physical cash at post office counters. This reform aims to enhance efficiency, reduce fraud risks, and integrate NIPOST into Nigeria’s growing digital economy. The transition marks one of the most significant operational shifts in the agency’s history, with 15 months allotted for public adaptation to the new system.
