A Nigerian woman, Oluranti Akinyemi, died in the UK after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly after arriving for her son’s graduation, prompting a fundraising campaign to repatriate her remains.
A Nigerian woman, Oluranti Akinyemi, has died in the United Kingdom less than 20 hours after arriving for her son’s graduation. According to a JustGiving appeal seeking £20,000, she “suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the middle of the night and was rushed to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.” After three days on life support, she was declared clinically dead.
The fundraiser, launched by Adekunle Ogundana, urged support to “Help us bring our sister, mother, friend and beloved home.” As of Wednesday, £2,087 had been raised. Social media users called for greater travel health precautions, with one noting, “This is not the first time we are losing our parents to the cold hands of death in a similar situation.”
