The All Progressives Congress won five of the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory during the weekend polls, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured victory in Gwagwalada. The elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, described the outcome as a strong endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, saying the results reflected public confidence in the administration’s policies.


Two Teenage Herders Killed In Plateau Attack

Two teenage herders were killed on Saturday by suspected assailants around Jol village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The victims were reportedly attacked while grazing cattle in the area.

The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the state said three cattle were also shot dead during the incident, raising fresh security concerns in the locality.


Tinubu Praises Wike Over APC’s FCT Electoral Success

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying his achievements yielded political dividends for the APC in the council elections.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President congratulated winners of the polls and lauded stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful exercise.


EFCC Arrests 20 Over Alleged Electoral Offences In FCT

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested 20 suspects for alleged electoral offences during Saturday’s FCT local government elections.

The arrests were made across several area councils, with suspects accused of vote buying, vote selling and obstruction of election officials. The agency said investigations are ongoing.


Panic As Gunmen Attack Plateau Community

Residents of Dorowa Babuje in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were thrown into panic on Sunday evening following an attack by unidentified gunmen.

Sources said the assailants invaded the community around 7:30pm, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee for safety as security concerns heighten in the area.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over low turnout in the FCT Area Council elections, describing it as a threat to democracy.

EFCC Recovers ₦17m, Arrests 20 Over FCT Vote Buying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it recovered ₦17,218,700 from 20 suspects arrested for electoral fraud during the FCT council polls.

According to the agency, one suspect was arrested in Kwali with ₦13.5 million, while others were apprehended in Abaji, Gwagwalada and Kuje. The suspects will be charged after investigations.


INEC Says 93% Of FCT Results Uploaded To IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission said 93 per cent of polling unit results from the FCT council elections had been uploaded to its IReV portal as of 2:00pm Sunday.

The commission appreciated residents for peaceful conduct and denied reports that voters were migrated to new polling units.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested a 35-year-old businesswoman, Rabi Muhammad, for attempting to smuggle 3,200 tramadol capsules concealed in a fake pregnancy bump.

The suspect was intercepted at the Seme border while heading to Cotonou, with officials describing the concealment method as “absurd.”

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 29 terrorists in coordinated offensives across Borno State and Yobe State.

According to Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, the operations targeted insurgent enclaves, with 15 terrorists killed in Gujba during Operation Desert Sanity V.
