Four traffic police officers, aged 25 to 36, have been arrested following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Nigerian national Osinakachukwu Marcus Onu. The incident occurred during a traffic operation on the N12 highway in Klerksdorp. Detectives tracked down the suspects after they reportedly fled the scene, leaving the victim’s stalled vehicle in the middle of the road.
The North West provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Adéle Myburgh, stated: “Four traffic police officers aged between 25 and 36 have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Nigerian national on the N12 in Klerksdorp.” The officers face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. Their official firearms were seized for forensic ballistic analysis.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court immediately. Major General Ryno Naidoo commended the swift arrests, which come amid rising concerns over the safety of Nigerians in South Africa. This tragedy follows a similar July incident where two other Nigerians were killed by masked gunmen in a brutal office raid in Durban.
