A Nigerian man has been sentenced to nine years in prison in Ireland after threatening to cut off students’ fingers during a violent burglary at a rented house in Cork.
A 22-year-old Nigerian man, Martin Ekhosuehi, has been sentenced to nine years in prison by a jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court in Ireland after being convicted of aggravated burglary, assault causing harm, and making threats to kill during a violent attack on two students. The incident occurred on July 2, 2023, at a rented house on Highfield Avenue, College Road, Cork, where Ekhosuehi and an accomplice allegedly forced their way into the property and demanded money and drugs.
During the hour-long ordeal, the victims were held at knifepoint, assaulted, and threatened with having their fingers cut off if they failed to hand over valuables. The attackers eventually fled with €30 and the victims’ phones. Investigators later linked Ekhosuehi to the crime through forensic evidence and CCTV footage. Judge Sinead Behan sentenced him to 11 years in prison but suspended the final two years, citing his youth and family support.
