Nigerian jailed for life over student’s brutal killing

A UK court has sentenced Adedapo Adegbola to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years for the murder of his former girlfriend, university student Steph Irons, in Nottingham.

A 40-year-old man, Adedapo Adegbola, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Nottingham Crown Court for the murder of his former girlfriend, 23-year-old university student Steph Irons, at her home in Mapperley, Nottingham. According to Irish Reports on Thursday, Adegbola admitted killing Irons on October 21, 2025, following the breakdown of their brief relationship, which began after they met while working together.

Prosecutors told the court that Adegbola became obsessed with Irons after their separation, ordering two knives online and travelling by taxi to her home. He attacked her as she stepped outside to take out the trash before forcing his way into the house and stabbing her repeatedly. Concern was raised when Irons’ colleagues received alarming messages from her phone, prompting police to attend the property where her body was found in the living room and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The court heard that Adegbola fled after the killing, discarding bloodstained clothing and other evidence across areas including Mapperley and Carlton,
