Nigerian afrofuji artiste Destiny Boy passes away at 22

Afrofuji musician Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has died at the age of 22, with the cause of death yet to be disclosed as of the time of filing this report, even as details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear following the rapid spread of the news across social media and entertainment circles, while a previously shared social media post by the late singer resurfaced and went viral in which he reflected on ambition and mortality, writing, “Either I make this money or I die young, money must be made,” a statement that has since drawn renewed attention, as a video seen by SaharaReporters and published by Kwara Eaglet showed his body being transported on a bus to an unidentified location, with claims in the footage that he vomited an unknown substance, though no official explanation has been given, amid recollections of his personal and professional life including the birth of his first child, a baby boy, in November 2024 with his partner Iremide, which he announced at the time with the words, “Alhamdulillah. Junior is here. My first son,” while Destiny Boy began his entertainment career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos State, worked as a backup dancer for Fuji icon Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, and rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji-style cover of Davido’s “If” went viral, leading to further popular covers of songs by Tekno, 2 Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, as well as original tracks including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey, with many Nigerians now mourning his death online and offering prayers for his family.
