Nigeria, Salako advocate Africa cancer control collaboration

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, called for stronger Pan-African cooperation against cancer at a forum in Egypt. He stated cancer deaths in Africa now exceed HIV/AIDS, malaria, and TB combined.

Salako revealed Africa had 1.18 million new cancer cases in 2022, with Nigeria accounting for over 10 percent. He detailed Nigeria’s reforms, including new centers and a cervical cancer vaccination drive.
