A Nigerian man has been confirmed killed while fighting for Russia in Ukraine, highlighting growing concerns over the recruitment of Africans into the war.
A Nigerian man who travelled abroad to fight for the Russian army in the Ukraine war has been killed in combat, according to a security expert. The deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly left his family in Nigeria to enlist with Russian forces amid the ongoing conflict.
The death was confirmed by Zagazola Makama, days after a Kenyan fighter also died in Ukraine. Ukrainian intelligence earlier said of the Kenyan, “Mogesa left a job in Qatar, received minimal military training, and was subsequently sent to the combat zone, where he was killed during an assault operation.”
