The Federal Government has clarified that senior secondary school students across arts, science and commercial classes are free to register any approved subject for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The Ministry of Education, in a statement signed by Director of Press Boriowo Folashade, said there is “no restriction or exclusion attached to the selection of any approved subject under the Senior Secondary School Curriculum,” dismissing rumours that students must remain within their subject tracks.
The ministry added that ICT has been renamed Digital Technology, noting the change is purely in title and does not affect curriculum content. Students may take any of the six approved trade subjects only if offered and previously taught in their schools, while those without exposure to trades are not mandated to register one. With WAEC registration ongoing, the government urged reliance on verified information as further reforms roll out across the system.
