Ngige’s convoy ambushed, police officer, residents injured

Gunmen disguised as security personnel attacked the convoy of former Anambra governor Chris Ngige along the Nkpor–Nnobi road, injuring a police officer and two residents while stealing a vehicle.

Gunmen dressed in police and army uniforms attacked the convoy of former Anambra governor and ex-minister of labour Chris Ngige on the Nkpor–Nnobi road, Idemili North LGA. Ngige was not present during the assault, but a woman recording the incident, a shop owner, and a police officer were shot, though none died.

Witnesses said the pilot car was riddled with bullets and the officer’s uniform and gun were taken. Police spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident, noting that operatives recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV stolen during the attack. “The recovered vehicle has been secured and taken into police custody for further investigation, while the operatives have stepped up a coordinated statewide manhunt for the fleeing armed hoodlums,” he said, adding that further updates would follow.
