WhatsApp is testing a new answerphone-style feature that allows users to leave quick voice messages after missed calls.
WhatsApp is trialling a new feature that lets users leave voice messages after unanswered calls, in what has been described as a modern version of an answerphone.
The tool, currently in beta testing with a limited number of users, is designed to reduce the frustration of repeated missed call notifications without explanation. Instead of making multiple attempts or leaving the recipient guessing about the call’s urgency, callers will be prompted to record a short voice message directly from the call interface.
According to WABetaInfo, “The feature is designed to be seamless and highly convenient, making it easier for users to stay in touch even when calls are missed.” Messages are delivered within the chat thread alongside the missed call alert, ensuring recipients know both that they missed a call and why.
While no date has been set for a wider rollout, industry watchers expect Meta to expand availability soon, given WhatsApp’s emphasis on improving real-time communication.
