The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has ordered electricity distribution companies to pay N20.33 billion owed to customers under the Meter Asset Provider framework within 12 months.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has directed all electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to pay N20.33 billion in outstanding reimbursements to customers who purchased meters under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework. In a document dated March 1, titled “Amended order on the reimbursement of meter costs,” the commission outlined the payment guidelines and emphasized that the directive takes effect immediately.
According to NERC, the total amount must be fully recovered and disbursed to affected customers within 12 months, starting from March 1, 2026. The MAP scheme requires DisCos to reimburse customers who procure and pay for meters through equal installments of energy credit.
“The review highlighted that DisCos have an outstanding amount of NGN20.33 billion to reimburse customers, for meters procured under the MAP framework as at 31 December 2025,” the commission stated. NERC added that the directive aims to ensure compliance by DisCos and protect the interests of electricity consumers.
