NDLEA busts six drug syndicates nationwide

The NDLEA has dismantled six major drug syndicates, seized large quantities of illicit substances, and arrested multiple suspects nationwide, with the agency warning that traffickers exploit the festive season and urging officers to maintain a “balanced approach to drug control.”

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has carried out a sweeping nationwide crackdown, dismantling at least six major drug syndicates, intercepting methamphetamine, cocaine, Loud, opioids, and skunk concealed in machine cylinders, auto parts, trailers, warehouses, and apartments, and arresting nine kingpins alongside several accomplices.

According to spokesperson Femi Babafemi, arrests were made in Lagos, Anambra, Kogi, Cross River, Edo, Plateau, Kebbi, Niger, and the FCT, including producers of “drug-laced brownies,” traffickers moving consignments to Gabon, and suspects transporting opioids to a Boko Haram enclave. NDLEA Chairman Brig-Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd) commended operatives and said the intensified campaign is necessary because “the festive season is often exploited by drug trafficking syndicates,” adding that the agency will sustain its “balanced approach to drug control.”
