Ndidi, Iwobi, Osimhen top candidates for Super Eagles captaincy

Following captain William Troost-Ekong’s retirement from international football, the Super Eagles are preparing for a leadership transition. Head coach Eric Chelle is set to name a new team captain, with three players identified as the leading candidates based on their seniority, experience, and influence within the national squad.

Wilfred Ndidi, the current vice-captain, is a strong favorite, bringing consistency, professionalism, and 71 caps since his 2015 debut.

Also highly considered is Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi, who holds 91 caps and has been a core member of the squad since 2015, lending significant seniority to his candidacy. Representing the younger generation of leaders is Victor Osimhen. As Nigeria’s talismanic striker, he has amassed 31 goals and is the team’s current heartbeat, placing him just six goals shy of Rashidi Yekini’s all-time record.
