The Nigerian Defence Academy has warned members of the public to avoid its shooting range area in Afaka, Kaduna State, as cadets of the 73 Regular Course hold a Brigade Inter-Battalion Shooting Competition on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Friday, the academy’s spokesperson, Maj. Reuben Kovangiya, said the exercise would take place at the NDA Open Range, Afaka, and urged residents of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya and Afaka general areas to steer clear of the vicinity during the period.
Kovangiya said the academy had put safety measures in place but stressed the need for public cooperation, stating, “NDA wishes to inform the public especially the inhabitants of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya and Afaka general area that it will be conducting Cadets Brigade Inter-Battalion shooting competition for Cadets of 73 Regular Course Army.”
He added, “The NDA assures the public that all necessary safety measures had been emplaced for the successful conduct of the exercise. However, the public is advised to avoid trespassing the general area throughout the period of the exercise. Please accept the assurances and best regards of the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj.-General Oluyemi Olatoye.”
