Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan rejects APC defection, vows loyalty to PDP

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has revealed that she has been approached several times by individuals from the Presidency and some colleagues to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, she said, “I have been approached many times… I love my space, I love my peace here. I’m okay with my party now, so I don’t think I have to join the APC.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan hinted at a possible 2027 Senate bid, stressing that discussions with her party are ongoing but nothing is certain. Addressing rumours about facing former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, she said, “I am not scared of Yahaya Bello. I am his nightmare… he wielded all the powers at his disposal against me, and I defeated his candidate in 2023.”

The first-term senator, who won the Kogi Central seat in 2023 after a tribunal declared her the winner, affirmed her loyalty to the PDP.

She stated that while she may be forced to switch parties if the PDP crisis persists, she would prefer to remain, adding, “If the PDP hasn’t resolved its crisis, I need just a month to choose a platform of my choice, and my people will move with me.”
