Hannatu Musawa, the minister of arts, culture, and creative economy, has spoken publicly about her enduring affection and close family bond with her former husband, Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group, describing him as someone who “will always have a special place in my heart.” Speaking during an interview on Mic on Podcast on Saturday, January 24, Musawa said she has no regrets about her past marriage and subsequent divorce, stressing that she is proud of her life choices and remains happy with her decision, while noting that their families have remained closely connected over decades.
Explaining the nature of their relationship, the minister said, “Abdul Samad is my family. You know, his family, my family have become one… He’s my father. He’s my older brother.
He’s really my friend. He’s everything to me. He’s my protector,” adding that despite their divorce, “He is my ex-husband, but we are still family.” Asked if she still had feelings for the Kano-born billionaire businessman, Musawa replied, “Samad, like I said, will always have my heart – there is no doubt about that… Samad is one of the greatest experiences that I’ve ever had. I will always love Samad for the rest of my days,” while attributing the end of their marriage to destiny, saying, “Man proposes, God disposes.”
