The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused Nigerian media organisations of excluding Islamic scholars and Muslim voices from debates on alleged “Christian genocide.” The group’s Director, Ishaq Akintola, said print and electronic media have “excluded Islamic scholars in particular and Nigerian Muslims in general,” branding coverage as “one-sided and unprofessional.”
According to MURIC, Christian clerics are given “unlimited opportunities” on television, radio, and newspapers while Muslims accused in genocide narratives are rarely invited to respond. “The Muslims are being framed. Worse still, they are gagged by the press. They are voiceless, oppressed and repressed,” Akintola said, calling on regulatory bodies to ensure balanced reporting.
