Mikel Obi says he would only take up a leadership role in the Nigeria Football Federation if it is free of corruption and run with transparency.
Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has expressed strong interest in leading the Nigeria Football Federation but insisted he will only accept such a role in a transparent, corruption-free environment.
Speaking after Nigeria’s World Cup qualification failure, Mikel stressed that he has always sacrificed for the country and remains ready to help, but said, “I won’t have corruption tied to me. I am never going to do that if I am going to say yes.”
He urged the NFF to “get the right people” with a shared vision to ensure players return to a positive environment.
Mikel’s administrative experience as Honorary Adviser on Sports in Plateau State, coupled with his decorated football career, has strengthened calls for him to help reform Nigerian football governance.
