Marjorie Taylor Greene to resign from Congress after bitter rift with Trump

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced she will resign from Congress on January 5 after a sharp and public breakdown in her relationship with Donald Trump, who recently denounced her and withdrew his endorsement.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia says she will resign from the U.S. House on January 5, citing an escalating feud with former President Donald Trump, who recently called her a “traitor” and a “lunatic” and withdrew his endorsement.

In a video and statement posted on X, Greene said, “Loyalty should be a two way street,” adding that she would not subject her district to a “hurtful and hateful primary” fueled by Trump.

The rift stems partly from her support for releasing the Jeffrey Epstein investigative files and her criticism of Trump’s focus on foreign leaders over domestic issues.

Trump responded to her announcement by saying, “I think it’s great news for the country.”

Greene described her treatment by Trump as intolerable, writing, “I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better,” and argued that standing up for “American women who were raped at 14” should not have led to her being labeled a traitor.

Her resignation weakens the GOP’s already narrow House majority and raises questions about her future in the MAGA movement, which she warned may be overtaken by “Neocons, Big Pharma, Big Tech… and the elite donor class.”
