Vice President Kashim Shettima described marital unions as fundamental pillars of Nigeria’s social strength and national development during a wedding ceremony in Makurdi, Benue State. Speaking on Sunday while representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the marriage between Miss Deborah Ershima and Mr Samuel Aondoakura, son of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Shettima emphasized that strong families nurture values essential for national cohesion, stability and progress.
The Vice President stressed that successful marriages require intentional everyday choices beyond vows. “A home is not built by vows alone. It is built by everyday choices. By the decision to return kindness for impatience. By the courage to apologise even when you feel justified,” Shettima said. He noted that patience, humility and alignment sustain families long after wedding ceremonies, urging society to support married couples with counsel rather than undue pressure.
Drawing parallels between family life and nation-building, Shettima said unity at the household level mirrors Nigeria’s resilience in overcoming challenges. “May your home be anchored in trust and sustained by faith. May your laughter outlast your disagreements. May your unity be stronger than any season of challenge,” the Vice President prayed for the couple. Senator Akume praised President Tinubu’s transformative leadership, while Governor Hyacinth Alia and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
