Manchester City are on the brink of signing Lyon’s Rayan Cherki in a £36m deal that includes a City player going the other way on loan, as the club races to meet FIFA’s Club World Cup deadline.
Manchester City are reportedly finalising a £36 million deal for Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, which includes a player heading the other way on loan. According to L’Équipe, the complex agreement includes add-ons and conditions, as Pep Guardiola’s side rush to complete signings before the June 10 Club World Cup registration deadline.
While the City player involved remains unnamed, several squad members including Jack Grealish, Stefan Ortega, and James McAtee have been linked with moves. Youngsters Claudio Echeverri and Maximo Perrone are also possible candidates.
Cherki impressed with eight goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season, and recently scored and assisted in France’s 5-4 loss to Spain. He is expected to be announced in the coming days, alongside possible new arrivals Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri.
With Cherki and Ait-Nouri each costing £36m and Reijnders valued at £46m, City could spend over £100m early in the transfer window as Guardiola seeks a squad refresh after finishing 13 points behind Liverpool.
